2025
Edition of 26
, 59 x 75,5 cm

Multicolored screenprint on linenwith 4 pieces and 1 dice
for Smoke, Birds, Pun, Crisis. A Dialogic Glossary by Magdalena Kreinecker with Simon Nagy and guests, published by Textem

Game is based on the historical feminist board game Pank-a-Squith. “Pank” refers to Emmeline Pankhurst, leader of the British suffragette movement in the early 20th century, who fought for women’s right to vote. “Squith” refers to H. H. Asquith, the British Prime Minister at the time, who was initially opposed to the suffragette cause. The name Pank-a-Squith plays on this conflict, reflecting the struggle between the suffragettes and the British political establishment.

In the original game, players take on the roles of suffragettes and attempt to secure voting rights by navigating Parliament and overcoming political obstacles.

This format is reimagined through the lens of the lives of young female artists. The game follows a similarly winding, sometimes absurd journey. Instead of Parliament, the board traces spaces and moments from everyday artistic life.

The spiral design of Pank-a-Squith suggests a sense of infinity. Unlike the suffragette movement, artistic lives do not have a clear endpoint; they continue through repeating cycles of struggle and moments of joy. The simplicity and accessibility of games like Snakes and Ladders also inform the structure, leading to the image of an infinite snake.

Built as an Ouroboros, the game has no ending—only a loop of small victories, setbacks, and starting again.

95 x 40 cm

Glazed stoneware, sand, fermented coca-cola, camping stove, butane gas
	Stems gallery, Brussels"La Propriété"

Techno-primitive soft moonshine still is an alembic sculpture designed as a hybrid between industrial fermentation apparatus and soft drink mythology. The still is composed of four spherical chambers stacked vertically, each one swelling into the next like oversized bubbles suspended in tension. The form sits between industrial fermentation apparatus and soft drink mythology.
The device is conceived for the distillation of fermented Coca-Cola, reimagining the world’s most ubiquitous soft drink as a raw material. Through fermentation, the soda’s excessive sweetness is allowed to destabilize and become alcoholic; through distillation, its volatile essence is extracted and concentrated into a clear spirit. What remains is not the drink itself, but its distilled memory: a purified extract of desire, sugar, caffeine, and global circulation.
Coca-Cola is approached here as a cultural substance rather than a beverage; an engineered liquid that already operates as a global surface of recognition, addiction, and repetition. Through fermentation and distillation, this surface is slowed down and displaced, allowing it to shift into an unstable material state.

The work stages a collision between industrial refreshment culture and primitive alchemical techniques. It asks what happens when the most engineered, branded, and standardized liquid becomes subject to slow transformation. In this process, Coca-Cola shifts from a mass-produced stimulant into a techno-mythic substance—an addictive black liquid reinterpreted as ancestral moonshine, glowing with the residue of summer thirst and global craving.

With Wollamhsram, Park extends her approach by transforming Lichtekooi into a fictional house of worship centered on the desire to “enjoy time.” Drawing on the marshmallow — both the pillowy candy and the root — the work questions capitalist ideas of time and self-control. Inspired by the 1970s marshmallow experiment, Park proposes an alternative experience of time — not linear and progressive, but something that spirals, overlaps, sediments, queers, and loops in and around itself. Through shared rituals, including drinking marshmallow moonshine, visitors are invited to release self-discipline and deferred pleasure and to inhabit a dense communal present. The marshmallow morphs from a tool of judgment into an invitation to experience time in the layered now.*text by Lichtekooi

The three diving belts is meant for the three lives of my late grandmother and the two lives that continue through my mother and me.

My grandmother used to sell bellflower root, corn, ginkgo nuts, and mushrooms at a wholesale market in Seoul. With that work, she bought two houses and put all five of her children through school.

She died after 17 years of living with Parkinson. My mum cared for her during the last 5 years of her life. A year after she passed, my mum nearly drowned at the sea while snorkelling with me. As I tried to pull her to safety, her skin turned blue and green, she felt heavy, then suddenly light, and for a moment I thought she had died in my arms. That moment, I become a rock, my mum’s rock, shaped by my grandmother. Keeping hard and silent.

Ten years ago, a pigeon was seen struggling with a slice of bread. The bread, with a hole in the middle, slipped over the bird’s head as it pecked, trapping its wings so that it couldn’t fly and forcing it to take only small, awkward steps. The moment reveals the absurd ways creatures can entangle themselves in the very things they pursue, a quiet metaphor for labor, care, and survival. The image of the pigeon caught in bread has circulated online as the “pigeon necklace bread” phenomenon; birds accidentally wearing slices like collars or necklaces, often framed humorously as signs of wealth or fashion.

This image inspired a clock in which a bird serves as the hour hand, moving through time, getting stuck in the bread, and eventually breaking free, only to repeat it’s struggle in an endless cycle, as time keeps running. Perhaps the pigeon had figured out a way to carry food to its chicks without regurgitating it. Or perhaps the bread simply became lodged by chance.

Spit Spirit is an ongoing project that explores fermentation as a transformative, intimate, and subversive practice. It is a bootleg jenever, an alcohol made using human saliva and chewed Knol’s koek, a beloved spiced cake from Groningen, served exclusively at Het Souffleur. The process, known as spit fermentation, revives a practice found in Indigenous cultures worldwide, where individuals chew starchy foods like corn, manioc, or grains to activate enzymes, then spit the mash into a container to ferment. This technique, seen in Andean chicha, Japanese kuchikamizake (口噛み酒), Korean ibju (입주, "mouth-entry liquor"), and even Norse mythology’s "sacred spit" in the Mead of Poetry, reveals how fermentation can embody shared labor, ritual, and memory. Through this act, spit becomes a potent medium, both a literal catalyst for transformation and a symbol of shared labor and care.

The jenever is served in mouth-shaped ceramic cups, designed to be kissed in order to sip the last drops. The bottles take their form from inspiration from seals, cherished animals in Groningen, and the Korean phrase 'drunk as a dog,' capturing how alcohol can unleash one's inner wildness or awaken an untamed, animalistic spirit.

Drawing on Radical Intimacy by Sophie Rosa, which critiques how capitalism commodifies relationships, Spit Spirit proposes an alternative: an intimate, collective ritual of fermentation and consumption that resists isolation and transactionality.

By inviting bar-goers to contribute their saliva, Spit Spirit transforms drinking into a collective ritual where intimacy, risk, and transformation converge. The process cycles through chewing, fermenting, distilling, and finally, kissing the mouth-shaped cup, as if sealing the drink with a shared breath. This intimate act evokes the release of the inner animal, a moment where the lines between self and other blur, transforming consumption into an act of mutual transformation and resistance.

For Hold the Space, Park presents Breadwinning, an evocative installation inspired by children’s ball maze games and the poignant image of pigeons entangled in discarded bread. This unintentional harm pigeons inflict on themselves as they cannot remove the necklaces on their own, depending instead on natural elements like rain to free them, forms the core of the work. The piece is rooted in a photograph Park took in 2015 of such a pigeon, which became a personal symbol for her, recalling her grandmother’s struggle with Parkinson’s and the inability to fully inhabit her own body.

The installation begins with the pigeon photograph, which forms the backdrop of the display case. In the foreground, Park crafted a sculptural panel featuring a maze-like structure: pieces of bread with holes invite interaction, while a small pigeon figure moves through the maze, inevitably falling into the holes. This interactive element mirrors the cycle of entrapment and struggle. Above the display, a branch is placed as a symbol of fleeting relief, a moment of rest before falling back into the relentless cycle of life.

If a comma loses its foot, will it fly away? If a comma loses its tail, will it finally have a sit down and become a full stop?

My interest in the comma began in early 2024 at the Frans Masereel Centrum, where I spent five weeks in residency.
One day, I decided to experiment with letterpress printing to create advertisements for my company, Gran’ Tools Supply, which designs and produces sculptures that function as tools for working grandmothers. I was unsure what to include in the ads beyond the company name and my phone number. While searching through drawers of type, I came across commas. Their shape resembled the farming tools I create and also signified a pause or break.
While researching the history of commas, I found that they were developed to indicate pauses in text and evolved from a simple dot, which originally represented a full stop. Misreading part of the text, I visualized the comma as a dot with a small, pointed extension anchored to the ground. This led me to consider whether the pointed end was a foot or a tail. Initially, I thought of it as a foot but questioned this assumption. After asking ChatGPT, I received the answer that it was a tail, though I remained uncertain.
This idea informed the creation of a Yutnori board, a traditional Korean board game that has been played for over six centuries. The board represents the lunar cycle, the four seasons, and community interactions. Typically played on New Year’s Day by two teams, my version features Team Tail Comma versus Team Foot Comma, reflecting this conceptual exploration.
